How to care for natural pearls so they don't yellow

Traditional pearl necklaces are strung on silk thread with knots between each pearl — so they don't scatter if the thread breaks and so the pearls don't rub against each other. If the thread has darkened, stretched, or become soft — it's worth having it restrung by a jeweler. This is done once every few years with regular wear.
